Aufgrund von Krieg oder Zensur müssen weltweit immer wieder Goethe-Institute schließen. Das »Goethe-Institut im Exil« funktioniert als Host für solche Institute und ihre Kulturschaffenden, es ist Begegnungsort, Schutzraum und lebendige Bühne. Das Logo greift die Idee der Leerstelle auf, die bereits im Design für das Projekt »Goethe-Institut Damaskus | Im Exil« eine zentrale Rolle spielte. Diese Leerstelle wird mit dem jeweiligen Länderschwerpunkt gefüllt. Das Leuchtgrün im Erscheinungsbild hebt sich vom Corporate Grün des Goethe-Instituts ab, es hat Signalwirkung und steht für einen Ausnahmezustand. Jedes Land wird zudem durch eine eigene Farbe codiert. Die Farben bilden fließende Formen, die immer in Bewegung sind. Große Klammern leiten sich aus dem Platzhalter des Logos ab, werden zu Pfeilen, die Dynamik schaffen und gleichzeitig Ankerpunkte sind. (Animation: Lukas von Bülow)
