Goethe-Institut Damascus | In Exile

Goethe-Institut Damascus | In Exile

The Goethe-Institut Damascus is closed since 2012 due to the crisis situation. In 2016 it reopens in Berlin temporarily. For this »Goethe-Institut Damascus | In Exile« we develop a visual identity. Key element of the graphic design is a blank field which symbolizes on the one hand that the closure of the institute left a void, on the other hand it can be seen as a new space for new encounters and content. Main color is a bright lime green, which stands out from the corporate green of the Goethe-Institut and thus communicates a state of emergency. It attracts a lot of attention and proves that the Syrian institute is very alive despite of its closure. Fragmented typography is placed on the side edges which means that the titles can be read only by connecting and crossing borders.
